Vogalonga - 50th Edition

Vogalonga

Every year, Venice hosts the Vogalonga, the traditional non-competitive regatta that celebrates the culture of rowing and the protection of the lagoon.
The event, open to boats of all types (from gondolas to kayaks), attracts thousands of participants from around the world, transforming the canals of Venice into one vast aquatic journey.

The origins of the Vogalonga

The Vogalonga was founded in 1974 by a group of rowing enthusiasts with the aim of raising public awareness of the risks posed by motorboats and the need to protect the lagoon environment.
Today, the event has become a true popular festival, combining sport, culture, and local community care in a unique setting.

The non-competitive regatta

The Vogalonga is not a race: its primary goal is participation and the promotion of the Venetian rowing tradition.
The approximately 30 km route passes through the canals, islands, and lagoon of Venice, offering participants an extraordinary spectacle of historic buildings, bridges, and pristine natural views.

A celebration of culture and tradition

Beyond the regatta, the Vogalonga is a cultural event: exhibitions, educational initiatives, musical performances, and entertainment bring the city and the lagoon shores to life.
It’s also an opportunity to discover and celebrate traditional Venetian boats, the masters of the art of rowing, and ancient shipbuilding techniques.

International participation and community spirit

Every year, the Vogalonga attracts enthusiasts from around the world, from amateurs to experts, who share a passion for the lagoon and rowing.
The event celebrates not only the sport, but also the identity of Venice, respect for the environment, and the conviviality that have always characterized lagoon life.
