Feast of the Redeemer

Feast of the Redeemer

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Venice returns to celebrate the “famous” night, the most heartfelt celebration for Venetians and one of the most spectacular events in the world.
The Festa del Redentore has for centuries combined religious and popular spirit, in a unique balance between historical memory and grand spectacle.

The origins: the vote against the plague

The festival originated as an act of thanksgiving for the end of the terrible plague epidemic that struck Venice between 1575 and 1577.
The Senate of the Republic of Venice decreed the construction of the majestic Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, designed by Andrea Palladio on the island of Giudecca.

Even today, a floating votive bridge is set up to connect the Zattere to the church, allowing the faithful to cross the canal and participate in religious celebrations, renewing a gesture that has been repeated for over four centuries.

The “very famous” night: lights on the lagoon

The most anticipated moment is Saturday night. Thousands of festively decorated boats gather in St. Mark’s Basin, transforming the lagoon into a spectacular stage.
Families and groups of friends dine on board or along the waterfront, respecting gastronomic traditions passed down from generation to generation.

On the hour, fireworks illuminate the sky with plays of light and reflections on the water, tracing a kaleidoscope of colors behind spires, domes, and bell towers.
A show capable of attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world and providing ever-new emotions, while remaining faithful to its most authentic soul.

Tradition, folklore and Venetian identity

The Redentore isn’t just a major tourist event: it’s an integral part of the city’s customs. Venetians continue to renew rituals, boat decorations, traditional dishes, and convivial moments that make this festival profoundly “Venetian.”

Between religious celebrations, regattas, and popular festivities, the Festa del Redentore remains a symbol of resilience and collective identity.
An event that intertwines history and present, faith and spectacle, transforming the lagoon into an unforgettable setting every year.
